I am a cultural anthropologist broadly concerned with community economies and cultural change in the context of globalization. My writing concentrates on three related concerns: (1) native peoples, autonomy and the politics local development; (2) entrepreneurs, communities and place-based economies; and (3) the social power of commodities and material culture. In this work, I have collaborated with the anthropologists Jason Antrosio and Dorothy Holland, the historian Mark Peterson, and others both in developing research projects and conferences and in publishing the results.
