I am a cultural anthropologist broadly concerned with community economies and cultural change in the context of globalization. My writing concentrates on three related concerns: (1) native peoples, autonomy and the politics local development; (2) entrepreneurs, communities and place-based economies; and (3) the social power of commodities and material culture. In this work, I have collaborated with the anthropologists Jason Antrosio and Dorothy Holland, the historian Mark Peterson, and others both in developing research projects and conferences and in publishing the results.  You will find publications related to these topics under separate tabs on the “Writings” menu.
